Giraffe Centre Excursion
A drive towards Ngong Hills takes you to a village near Ngong home of the renowned writer, Karen Blixen who lived there between 1914 and 1931.
This suburb of Karen takes its name from Karen Blixen, aka Isak Dinesen, a Danish coffee planter and lady aristocrat who became one of Africa’s most famous writers. Blixen’s subsequent return to Denmark, led to the writing of the definitive tale of European endeavor in Africa ‘Out of Africa’.
Next is Giraffe Manor, situated on a 120 acre piece of land is this home of the Rothschild giraffe. It is about 18 km form central Nairobi. Jack Leslie-Melville and his wife Betty bought it and moved five baby endangered Rothschild Giraffe’s in1974.
The original Giraffes have subsequently had their own offspring that now live on the property. Hand feeding the Giraffes is quite an experience especially for children and there is a display of information about the Giraffes. You will also see and photograph Warthogs that wonder around the Manor gardens.

Half Day - Dalphine Sheldrick Orphanage- Baby Elephant Santuary
Best Nairobi city excursion
Located in Nairobi Game Park in Kenya, Daphne Sheldrick's Elephant Orphanage was originally started by famous naturalist David Sheldrick, who was the first person to study the movement pattern of elephant herds and the first person to rescue and hand-rear orphaned elephants. Most of the baby elephants in Nairobi Game Park are there because their mothers have been killed by hunters, due to the rise in ivory poaching. Other babies have either got lost in the wild or been separated from their mothers for reasons unknown. The African elephant calves are hand-reared here with the intention of gradually reintroducing them into the wild once they are strong enough to survive.
Visitors to the park can see the young elephants interacting with their keepers – playing, taking mud baths and being fed with milk. This is a wonderful sight to watch and a wonderful way to get up close to the babies and observe their playful habits, something which isn’t always possible − or safe − in the wild.
The Nairobi Elephant Orphanage opening hours are from 11am-12 noon daily
